Carlos & Sofia

A Wedding at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome

Some weddings bring together two families. Others seem to bring together an entire world.

Carlos and Sofia’s wedding in Rome was one of those celebrations.

Sofia is Italian, Carlos is Spanish, and together they live in London. For their wedding, they returned to Italy and chose Rome as the setting for a celebration that brought together around 150 guests from across the world.

Family and friends travelled from Italy and Spain, while others arrived from London, New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, Dubai, India and the United States.

At the centre of it all was Rome: the city where their wedding story unfolded between the extraordinary setting of St Peter’s Basilica and the elegance of Casina Valadier.

A Wedding in the Heart of Rome

The day began with a religious ceremony in the Chapel of the Choir at St Peter’s Basilica.

There is something unique about filming a wedding in a place with such extraordinary history. But beyond the architecture and the setting, what mattered most was the reason everyone was there: Carlos and Sofia.

Their wedding brought together different countries, cultures and generations in one place. Guests who had travelled thousands of kilometres shared the same ceremony, the same emotions and, later, the same celebration.

For a wedding film, that sense of connection is something worth preserving.

From St Peter’s Basilica to Casina Valadier

After the ceremony, the celebration continued at Casina Valadier, in the heart of Villa Borghese.

The change of setting created a natural transition in the story of the day: from the solemn atmosphere of the religious ceremony to an evening dedicated to dinner, conversations, laughter and celebration.

Casina Valadier provided an elegant Roman setting for the reception, surrounded by the atmosphere of Villa Borghese and the beauty of the city.

It was here that the international character of Carlos and Sofia’s wedding became even more evident.

People who had travelled from different parts of the world were finally together around the same tables, celebrating the same couple.

A Wedding That Brought the World Together

What makes Carlos and Sofia’s wedding particularly memorable is the distance their guests travelled to be there.

Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom were only the beginning.

There were friends and family from New Zealand and Australia, guests from Egypt and Dubai, and friends who travelled from India and the United States.

For Carlos and Sofia, their wedding was therefore much more than a celebration in Rome. It was a gathering of the different chapters of their lives.

Their Italian and Spanish roots, their life in London and the friendships they had built around the world all came together for one extraordinary day.

And that is something a wedding film can preserve in a very particular way: not only the events themselves, but the people who made them meaningful.

Filming Carlos & Sofia’s Wedding in Rome

When filming a wedding with such a strong international dimension, the guests become an important part of the story.

The glances between friends, the reactions of family members, the embraces after the ceremony and the energy of a room filled with people who have travelled from different countries all contribute to the atmosphere of the film.

For Carlos and Sofia, Rome provided the setting. Their people provided the emotion.

My role was to bring those elements together naturally, allowing the film to move between the intimacy of the wedding ceremony and the energy of a celebration shared with 150 guests.

A Roman Evening at Casina Valadier

As the celebration moved into the evening, Casina Valadier became the backdrop for the final chapter of the day.

Located in Villa Borghese, the historic venue offers an unmistakably Roman setting, combining elegant interiors and outdoor spaces with views across the city.

But the most important part of the evening was not the venue itself.

It was the atmosphere created by Carlos and Sofia and by all the people who had travelled to Rome to celebrate with them.

A wedding like this is made of hundreds of small interactions: a conversation between old friends, a laugh shared across a table, a toast, a dance, a hug.

Those are the moments that give a wedding film its personality.

Carlos & Sofia’s Wedding Film

Carlos and Sofia’s wedding brought together two families, two cultures and a remarkable group of friends from around the world.

From a religious ceremony at St Peter’s Basilica to the celebration at Casina Valadier, their day had a strong sense of place while remaining deeply personal.

For me, the challenge was not simply to film the beauty of Rome, but to capture what happened when all these people came together for Carlos and Sofia.

That is what I wanted their wedding film to remember.
